Effect of air pollution on brain activity

 Air pollution is dumbing us down, according to a study published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Researchers found that exposure to toxic air could wield an average loss of one year's worth of education. The study, conducted in China, found that air pollution affects the cognitive performance of all age groups, though its effects were most pronounced for those over 64 years. Air pollution is responsible for 7 million deaths a year, according to The Guardian.

A second person has experienced sustained remission from HIV-1 after ceasing treatment, reports a paper led by researchers at UCL and Imperial College London.  The case report, published in Nature and carried out with partners at the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford, comes ten years after the first such case, known as the ‘Berlin Patient.’ Both patients were treated with stem cell transplants from donors carrying a genetic mutation that prevents expression of an HIV receptor CCR5.
